Dry red “Chateau de Carles” is the second wine of the same name produced in the economy and the quantity of about 30,000 bottles a year. From the “big brother” it features a smaller intensity and concentration of flavor characteristic of young wines. The drink is made from a blend of three grape varieties, the so-called “Bordeaux mixture”, which in this case consists of varieties Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Malbec. All the grapes are grown on clay and limestone soils of the appellation Fronsac. Vines planted at a density of 6-10 million per hectare, and the plants have an average age of about 35 years. Manual harvesting usually begins in the first week of October – during the optimal ripeness. Bunches neatly stacked in small plastic boxes in which and transported to the factory where berries are careful selection. Then placed in a temperature-controlled grapes stainless steel tanks for cold maceration, which lasts 6-10 days, and further alcoholic fermentation. After fermentation, the wine closure gravity drained into oak barrels for the final exposure, which takes 18-24 months. Before bottling the wine is not filtered. “Chateau de Carles” can be drunk young, but with great aging potential, it is capable for many years to develop in the bottle.

Fronsac appellation is located in the east of the Bordeaux wine region. He located a few miles west of the city Libourne in a very picturesque rolling hills covered with forests. Since ancient times, these fertile places were very popular among the French nobility. Construction Chateau de Carles was conducted for 100 years and was completed in the early 15th century. The famous and had a great weight in Bordeaux, De Carlo family owned the estate for almost 200 years and during that time the castle was rebuilt several times. In the 17th century Chateau De Carlo was a spiritual and literary center of Bordeaux. Here Margarita De Carlo with her husband Etienne de la Boesi – known philosopher and writer, took a mutual friend Michel de Montaigne – famous writer, philosopher and humanist. And the Marquis de Buffler, who owned the castle in the 18th century, was a spiritual friend, Diderot, Rousseau and Beaumarchais. During the French Revolution the estate would suffer greatly, and the castle was partially destroyed. In 1900 Chateau de Carles acquired Guillaume Shastane – MP and Senator Gironde department. A New History of the Chateau began in 1982, when the management of the economy fell into the hands of Stephen and Constance Shastane Drul. Guillaume granddaughter and her husband decided to resume production of the greatest wines of Bordeaux and thus revive the former glory Chateau De Carlo, where Fronsac wines were valued higher production of neighboring communes of Saint-Emilion and Pomerol. To this end, a major reorganization was carried out in the vineyards and planted new plantations.
